My family has made these cookies my entire life and it has been our signature treat. We bring these cookies to every event and without fail, every time, someone asks for the recipe. I’ll share some tips to get them to turn out just right!
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Wet ingredients first!
2 eggs
3/4 c white sugar
3/4 c brown sugar
1 c shortening
1 tsp vanilla
Mix and then add dry ingredients next
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
2 1/4 cups flour (maybe a little more depending on stickiness)
1 c semi sweet chocolate chips
Bake at 375 for 6-8 minutes
-The secret is to take it out when they are BARELY turning brown and let them sit on the cookie sheet for a couple minutes to continue baking. I usually wait about 10 minutes before I remove them from the cookie sheet.
-DO NOT roll the cookie dough into balls, just put them in clumps
-You CAN use milk chocolate chips if that is your preference, but the bitter taste always is the favorite at our events
-I have also used butter instead of shortening, and it does turn out well, just not the exact same taste
